Dental services are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), except for certain dental surgeries done in a hospital.
Dental plans help people pay for procedures such as cleaning teeth and gums, x-rays, filling cavities and removing wisdom teeth. Many employers offer dental plans to their employees. If you do not have an employee dental plan, you can buy an individual plan from a private insurance company. Some major private insurance companies include, Manulife Financial, Ontario Blue Cross, Great West Life and Sunlife.
There is a publicly funded dental program for children in need of dental treatment. This program ensures that eligible children can receive treatment when they need it, at no cost. In Leeds & Grenville, this program is offered through Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit.
Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit also provides valuable information related to oral health for all ages.
